Summer PlayschemeEvery year, CARIS runs a Summer Playscheme. For example, last year in 2007. 161 children and young people attended the summer playscheme, which combined art music, drama, arts and crafts. CARIS offers a summer programme for children between the ages of 0‑15 years with a a wide range of themed activities and workshops, delivered by trained play workers and specialists in different areas of expertise, supported by adult and youth volunteers. The core CARIS staff team provide overall management and supervision. The playscheme engages with children and young people by encouraging them to set their own boundaries and consider their aspirations for the future through play and informal learning. It also provides a means to reach children and young people who may be disengaged from formal education, and is also a fun way to build links and community cohesion between families of different culture and faith. The offer of free or low‑cost trips gives the opportunity for parents and carers to be actively involved. For details of the 2008 Summer Playscheme please visit our blog, which you can access by clicking the "pink pencil logo" on the left-hand menu of this screen, or similarly from any page of this, our main website. The blog opens in a new window, so we'll still be here when you get back!
